Welcome to Newton Country Day School. At our school girls from over 65 communities in greater Boston come together to develop the courage, confidence and skills required for intellectual, athletic, spiritual and artistic exploration and accomplishment. We offer a college preparatory program for girls in grades 5 through 12.
Established in 1880, our school is one of the oldest independent Catholic girls schools in New England. In our 128th year of educating "the whole woman with a view to the age and circumstances in which she lives," Newton welcomes students who may choose from over 120 different courses (including 19 that are Advanced Placement) offered in nine academic departments. All students in grades 9 through 12 own laptop computers as part of a comprehensive technology program which includes school-wide wireless communications and an active intranet.
The demands placed on women today highlight the need to develop in young women a sense of their power and ability. Current research clearly points to the effectiveness of single sex education for young women. Graduates of girls schools account for a significant percentage of women in leadership positions in industry, academia, public life, and the professions.
Newton Country Day is one of an international group of schools and colleges founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart. Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society in 1800 in Paris as a response to the chaos of post-Revolutionary France. She established a progressive educational system that, from its inception, has been committed to educating young women of all faiths.
